Counselors are the thread that ties it ALL together,
Personally, Socially, and Academically
Verna Paul
Ms. Paul received a Master of Arts in Educational Counseling from the University of La Verne and her Bachelor of Arts in Clothing and Textiles from the California State University of Long Beach.
She is currently an academic counselor at Dr. Maya Angelou Community High School since January 2015. Her work focuses specifically on the personal, social, and academic aspects of all students within the Los Angeles Unified School District. Ms. Paul is very passionate about the relationships that have been built through the daily interactions with students, parents, and staff.
She has experience with providing individual and group counseling to a diverse range of students. Her counseling approach is based on person-centered therapy that all students have the ability of self-actualization towards positive growth and fulfillment thru unconditional positive regard. Ms. Paul believes counseling is a collaborative process and seeks to provide a safe and supportive environment that empowers individuals to reach their goals.
When not providing academic counseling she spends her spare time sewing original items to attending line dancing events around the Southern Los Angeles area.
She can be reached directly through email and/or Schoology. The counseling team is here to support you throughout your child's' high school years.
